From my MA final body of work based on the Pagan 'Wheel of the Year' an enquiry in to the Beautiful ancient woodland known locally as 'The Great Wood' on the shore of Derwent water in the U.K Lake District. This ancient landscape is home to a rare form of Temperate Rainforest covered in beautiful moss, ferns and bryophytes the Great Wood supports a great number of beautiful flora and fauna. Above the woodland stands Castlerigg Stone Circle, which has stood here dominating the landscape for almost 5000 years, from a time pre Gregorian calendar when our ancestors would use the Great Wood for shelter, fuel and medicine. They knew the time of the year based on the activity of flora and fauna, mating rituals of resident species and annual migration patterns of visiting species. A truly magical place that captivated me.
